Caviar has unveiled Liquid Metal, a new custom design for the foldable iPhone Ultra. Crafted from mirror-polished sterling silver, the design explores the idea of metal in a fluid state. Its sculptural relief creates the impression of metal caught in motion, frozen across the surface of the smartphone at the very moment of transformation.
The centerpiece of Liquid Metal is 925 sterling silver. Caviar’s designers approach the precious metal from an unexpected perspective, giving it a sense of visual fluidity and movement. The flowing relief evokes the surface of mercury or molten metal, forming a sculptural pattern across the device.
Mirror polishing plays a defining role in the design. The reflective surface interacts with light and transforms depending on the viewing angle: certain areas appear deep and dark, while others catch a brilliant metallic shine. This interplay gives the relief a dynamic quality, creating the impression that the surface continues to move as the smartphone is turned.
The Liquid Metal concept is also closely connected to the architecture of the iPhone Ultra itself. The foldable form factor is built around constant transformation, and Caviar’s designers extended this idea into the exterior design. Flowing lines of silver emphasize the geometry of the smartphone, turning its surface into a unified metallic composition.
“Silver is traditionally associated with precision, craftsmanship and refined jewelry work. With Liquid Metal, we wanted to reveal an entirely different side of the material. We tried to capture the moment when metal appears to become fluid and preserve that movement in silver,” comments Alexander, Creative Director of Caviar.
Liquid Metal relies almost entirely on the material itself rather than conventional decorative ornamentation. The silver, complex sculptural relief, mirror reflections and interplay of light become the key expressive elements of the design. This approach brings Liquid Metal closer to contemporary collectible design objects and metal sculpture.
Prices for Caviar’s custom iPhone Ultra start at approximately $12,130 for the Titan model. Pre-orders are also available for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max in any of the designs currently presented on the Caviar website.
